Lady Gaga's official YouTube account was shut down this week following a copyright claim over footage of her performance on a Japanese TV show.

The ladygagaofficial account was unavailable on Thursday as the singer promotes her new album. A notice said the action was taken due to multiple or severe violations of YouTube's copyright policy.

It followed an appearance on Fuji TV's weekly SMAP X SMAP show during which Lady Gaga performed a 10-minute medley of her hits. Her management reportedly posted a copy of the performance to YouTube, which drew a complaint to Google from Media Interactive Inc, a copyright protection company.

Unauthorised footage of the performance was also removed from other video websites.

The account was restored late on Thursday without the offending video.

Google, which owns YouTube, declined to comment. the site's policy is to shut down accounts after three copyright violations.

Despite the hiccup, Lady Gaga has proved adept at using the web to gather an army of fans she calls her little monsters. With more than 11 million followers, she is the most popular celebrity on Twitter, has claimed the most liked spot on Facebook, and the YouTube video for her song Bad romance has been viewed almost 400 million times.

I honestly don't see why they had an issue with it. Since it was the Management who posted the video to begin with.

Why would the japanese show not want the performance broadcasted?

Free publicity.
