Lawnmower pull cord

No, that is not me.

Well I was just outside mowing the lawn. It stalled so I went to pull the starter pull-cord and it broke off.



Just did some googling and found a website that says I need to do this:



These are the steps to replace the cord:

1. Buy some new cord.
   
2. Open up the housing which holds the spring-loaded starter pulley.
   
3. Remove the starter pulley (if necessary)
   
4. Remove the old cord
   
5. Attach new cord to pulley, probably with a knot.
   
6. Wind new cord two or three times around the pulley.
   
7. Thread the cord through the hole in the metal pulley cover.
   
8. Re-attach the pulley to the engine motor or clutch
   
9. Fasten the metal cover.
   
10. Give the new cord a few pulls to test the recoil.
    
11. Reattach the little plastic T pull handle.
    
12. Mow.
    

Seems simple enough.. Have you ever broken the pull cord before on a mower?

Yeah, our pull cord has gotten effed up before. Lawnmowers are a pain :/ I flooded the engine once too...

Well I have to fix it because its my landlord's mower and he wont be too happy if I broke it.

Get a meaty electronic starter on it.

It's happened to me before but I took it to the repair shop. I brought the cord along and they told me it was old and frayed. I would, if I were you, take it some place along with the cord and get it repaired. Have them note why this happened and give the bill to your landlord. I wouldn't try to fix it myself as the landlord could say you did more damage. The other option is to just call the landlord and have him replace the cord.

2 weeks later and I finally got it fixed. Actually I brought it into work and my boss fixed it. He knows a lot about lawnmowers. He fixed the pullcord, changed out the fuel line and cleaned up my spark plug. Works fine now.. Just been out mowing the tall grass.. Taking a break then I got to go finish..
