Taylor, 51, was taken into custody by the Town of Ramapo police after being accused of raping someone in the Holiday Inn Holidome Hotel in Suffern.

Details surrounding the rape have not yet been released other than the location and that it occurred early this morning. Charges against the Hall of Fame linebacker will be filed once police complete their investigation.

A news conference is expected later Thursday afternoon where police will reveal more details.

Taylor, affectionately known by his fans as L.T., spent his entire 13-year career with the Giants and is considered one of the greatest defensive players in NFL history. He was named Defensive Player of the Year three times and won the Most Valuable Player award in 1986.

He was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 1999.

His personal life has been marred by trouble before. He's admitted to using cocaine during his NFL career, and was suspended several times by the league for failing drug tests.

After retiring in 1993, his problems with drug use continued and he was jailed on three separate occasions on drug charges, but cleaned himself up and said he had been sober since 1998. He starred in the feature film Any Given Sunday in 1999 as Luther 'Shark' Lavay, and has worked as a color commentator over the years as well.

Last November, Taylor was charged with leaving the scene of an accident near Miami.

Police listed Taylor as a resident of Pembroke, Fla.

This is a true story as I used to live at one time in this area. I met LT at a club one night. He kept wanting to buy me drinks and I kept telling him no thank you. He found out what car I was driving and before he left the club parking lot he smashed my windshield. People saw him do this and I called the police to report it. Nothing ever came of it for months and then one night I was in the club and the owner handed me an envelope, Inside the envelope was $500 and a note that said: Next time I offer to buy you a drink and you refuse, it will be your face I smash. He signed it love LT. I turned the note and money over to the police but again nothing ever happened. Needless to say I never went back to that club. He's an arrogant bastard and I'm glad he got caught this time.

Ohh my god. Well if he threatened me like that, it would have been the last thing he'd ever do
