I find it funny that most employers will layoff people or cut their hours / supplies & tools needed to do their job / force them to take days off without pay / raise health insurance rates / etc.. But the people on the top barely ever see any cutbacks and never get laid off. People that make $100,000 or $200,000+ a year can afford to lose some money to save other people's jobs, but NOOOO...

What do you think?

When my husband worked at Wal-Mart, his manager's bonus was based on how much under budget he came for the year.

Now, realistically--look at a Wal-Mart budget.

Utilities--you can't do much about the cost of utilities.

Product cost--you can't really do anything about what the store has to pay for something

Payroll--Ah yes! Now here is somewhere that you can cut. If I want my bonus to be XX amount of dollars, I'll just cut my payroll (i.e. hourly workers) by X%. That means 2 check out clerks for a gazillion people. Not able to find a stockman to get that last box of whatever off the top shelf. And so forth.......

It does suck.

I was reading about a company that, in fact, instead of laying off employees, talked to them, and everyone agreed to take an X amount of salary cut. Once times were well again, which was expected to come soon, they would be given raises, and as time progresses, added bonuses and raises. In the end, instead of laying off say 10 people on a company of 200, they could just take about a 5% pay cut.

This is why we need to be more socialist.

So I agree with you, Nebulous, it's terrible.

I think the people on the top forgot what it feels like to be on the bottom. Or perhaps their greed doesnt allow them to see that what decisions they make has an effect on people's lives.
