Meet the dog named Lazarus that survived being put down

An abandoned dog was being put down by a normally fatal injection by a vet after a shelter failed to re-home him.

However, the indefatigable dog from Alabama had other plans and the next day had miraculously recovered.

Rescue workers at the Ozark City animal shelter renamed the dog, Lazarus, after the biblical character who was brought back to life by Jesus.

No one involved with the shelter know of any scientific reason how he survived.

Shelter volunteer, Cortney Blankenship, shared her thoughts: ‘His body overcame and he had a will to live and somehow, someway he made it through.’

Ozark Police Captain Bobby Blankenship who supervises the shelter described Lazarus’ recovery: ‘He was back up and breathing and going right about business like it’s nothing.’

While the shelter had initially failed to find the mutt a home, after posting his crazy story on Facebook, they found a family willing to take him 150 miles away in Helena, Georgia.

His new foster mother, Jane Holston said: ‘He’s not skittish, he’s not afraid of anything, anybody, any sounds.

‘I mean, it’s just amazing what all he has been through.’

Aww, bless his heart and I'm so happy he finally got a forever home.
