With rents across New York City continuing their dizzying skyward trajectory, there's at least one defiant population which has found a way to make the city work for them. Filmmaker Jeff Seal spent some time hanging out with a group of squatters who, for a time, took over a crumbling three-story apartment building in Brooklyn.

Could you ever live in those conditions?

No. I have a family that would take me in if I ever lost my housing, but I'd also try to keep a job so I could make money and not have to live like this.

 

[Nebulous]

There was a vacant place on my street where squatters occupied the building. I'm glad they finally rented that place out because those squatters looked shady as fuck, to put it bluntly.

Very sad, Thankfully I doubt I will ever have to be put in that situation.
