When you are listening to other people's problems, do you ever experience a loss of words? You dont know what to say to comfort them and cannot relate to whatever their problem is?

Do you always know just what to say and just how to make the person feel better?

When I listen to other peoples problems, especially on places like here if I know the answer to it and can assist them in solving it, I will usually jump in but if not I feel play the role of observe and choose to just listen in on how they solve it themselves and take notes because one day it could help me in the future. In the real world, if I am at a loss for helpful words, I will usually just shower them with positivity such as things like You'll get through this or just sit there shaking my head but never necessarily assist them in getting out of the hole.

I'm horrible at saying something to make someone feel better...the best I can do is give someone a hug, but when it's with an online friend, I'm completely useless...you can ask. I wish I knew just what to say...I'm just bad at these situations...I do have 1 or 2 friends in real life that I go to with my problems and 2 or 3 online that I can talk to...one that will always help me... <3

Lots of times I experience a loss of words. If I do, I usually tell them something like, 'if you need to talk, I'll listen--I may not know what to say, but I'll listen' Most of the time that's what people want to hear anyway. They don't necessarily want you to 'fix' anything, just sympathize with them.....
