Literacy is the ability to read and write. Obviously if you are reading and replying to this thread, you have fine literacy skills.

Did you have trouble learning to read and write growing up? Did it come naturally to you?
Do you know anyone who struggles with literacy?

I disagree.

I believe Functional Literacy is the ability to Read and Write EFFECTIVELY. To understand the meaning of a given written statement, and to respond in kind with something coherent.

I picked up on reading and writing fairly easy as far as I remember. My lil one did too. She loves books and writing stories.

Maybe I'm illiterate and making do with a screen reader and voice to text software!
Ok, bit of a stretch, but not impossible.


Reading came easily enough and I never minded reading. Though I don't want to pick my own books
Writing... well, I can write and it's not the worst handwriting ever, but it's not that great either. My spelling and grammar aren't quite what they should be either, I think, though I've seen plenty of people do worse.

I've never had a problem, except reading out loud I yawn a lot (some kind of minor brain disease I think?). My mother is a librarian, I've worked as one a few times so it would be shameful and awful if I didn't at least enjoy moderate book consumption.

As it is, when I see a book I want to read, or go to the bookstore/library...

Writing-wise, I'm kind of awful. Been out of school too long or something.
