Netflix is reportedly developing a live-action television series based on Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda franchise, according to the Wall Street Journal. The show is described as "Game of Thrones for a family audience."

The Zelda series sounds very early in development; Netflix and Nintendo are reportedly working closely together on the live-action show, and are seeking a writer. WSJ cautions that the series could be spiked, should Nintendo and Netflix decide not to go forward with the show.

"Game of Thrones for a family audience" cracks me up, but it describes perfectly how I visualize it would be like. So what are your guys' thoughts on a Live-Action Zelda show? Would you watch it?

I was never big into The Legend of Zelda games, but I think I'd try it at least, just to see how the production and whatnot went.

Netflix has some good shows.

Ever seen Orange is the new black?

Yeah, but I couldn't get into it. I'm a highly picky person.

I'm definitely trying it. I'm not into zelda at all but more fantasy shows are always nice.

"Game of Thrones for a family audience"

So no sex, no blood, no murder, none of the things that make GoT actually worth watching? OK.

And the factor of Link being a silent protagonist... how is that meant to work exactly?

Gonna be shit.

We'll see I guess...

The Zelda games already don't have that great of stories to begin with it, they're all basically "evil guy takes over, or is trying to take over the kingdom, you the hero of destiny must stop him by gathering a bunch of trinkets that will get us into his castle where you can battle him with the only thing that hurts him, a special sword."

Don't get me wrong, I love the games, but the stories are pretty shallow and empty to begin with, the games are mostly about traversing big awesome stereotypical Game-ish dungeons that nobody in their right mind would make or live in and collect artefact's that will help you in later dungeon, and kill every enemy in your path.

I cant see there being a deep and intricate show based off of zelda. Seems to me like they're probably gonna make some crappy show with a mediocre storyline that will probably just be stacked with a whole bunch of fan service ( because 80% of Zelda fanbase think that Ocarina of Time is where Zelda spawned from, and everything should be based off of ocarina of time), and will probably only be watched by people because it has the title Zelda, a beloved franchise of many that a ton of people grew up playing.

The end result is probably gonna be a show that bombs and is not liked by newcomers or old Zelda fans alike. At least those are my thoughts

Who knows, maybe the show will go way beyond our expectations and actually be good.

I will be pleasantly surprised if I am wrong, and I will welcome that if that's the case.
