For those that remember I was on jury service a few weeks back. I rang up today to find out when I was getting paid for it. The jury officer told me that becuase I am out of work I won't get a f ing penny!!! I can't believe it. I was expecting about 250 to 300 quid. That would have done for my festival money and car mot. Now I have nothing. I'm so angry. I shall be writing to the courts when I get home from my camping trip.

That's not what I read on the sheet though. On the whole pack you get it states that you get something like 35 quid for over 4 hours. Plus I have missed loads of job opportunities for 1 and a half weeks of something I didn't want to do in the first place.

The same holds true here in the US. If you are not working you do not get compensated for jury duty. They only compensate people who are employed and jury duty causes them lost wages. It's right on the jury duty form that I receive and they make it quite clear who does and does not qualify for compensation.
