Have you ever suspected someone was lying about their personal problems?

Ever called them on it? Caught them? ...Maybe they admitted it later on?

What have you witnessed?

Would you consider these liars to be "emotional predators" (who take advantage of kind, caring, sympathetic forum members)?

Yeah, definitely. I know I've talked to many a people and suspected things, but it's kind of hard to prove it considering you're on the internet and you probably don't know that person IRL. Sad, but you never know what may be true or not. If there are inconsistencies, it makes sense, but every situation is unique.

Yes. Not everyone is going to be honest about their issues. Just a way of life I guess.

I would, I'd also call them borderline sociopaths.

Making up fictional sob stories, deceiving people into thinking they are real and willfully accepting sympathy for them is fucked up in my book. There are real people behind these computer screens and toying with their emotions is just wrong.

I'm often afraid of sharing anything since people might think I'm lying.

Doctors don't tell me stuff they just talk to my mom and she just basically gives me a thumbs up or down.

The internet is a crazy place, you'll always get those members who aren't honest and such.

 I don't think you're lying. Modesty and hesitation to share your situation are usually signs of someone being honest.

Liars are usually very open, over the top and demand the spotlight. They want everyone to know what's going on with them so they can take full advantage of the attention they're receiving.

Thank you!

They can go fly a kite...in a lightning storm :) , ok not quite but you know.

One time, a girl I met online through a Final Fantasy forum told me she was a real life vampire, and that she drank blood and all that, but her family didn't get her and constantly told her she was lying. I'm...not quite sure how to take that one, and it's hard not to laugh, as sweet as she was on the other hand. D:

I met one on a forum that one thing after the other was happening. These weren't small things either. They befriended me and after awhile, I just threw in the towel. I cannot prove anything they said was a lie but then again, I saw it basking in all the attention it was getting. Every time the attention stopped, they came up with another ailment/addiction. My 'gut' feeling was this person is very lonely and lacks the attention IRL.

Do you think its very possible that she may have been suffering from a grandiose delusional disorder?

I have a girl in my class who frequently lies about being sick and how weak her immune system is. I would have sympathy, but sometimes, her lies are so outlandish and obviously fake that we all just laugh.

Maybe.  I think she was just misunderstood and didn't have a lot of friends, was really into RPing about fantasy characters (especially vampires).

Does she have any friends? Maybe she's doing this just to get some attention.

I really do have a weak immune system as well as health issues but to lie about it is just crazy.

Because the OP being a member at another site I'm affiliated with I dare not say.

Oh gawd, don't get me started. One poster in particular changes he lies not in one forum to the next, but in one THREAD. it never ends. Caused a huge ruckus ... I have had to move on. it still yaps and yaps about me and then cries ""Why can't people forget the past and move on"" Then drunk posts. Hahahaha

So on to the next ....

A friend lying about their health and wareabouts. Due to their religion.

In this case no, their family is deeply religious and it would bring shame on them.
