A man has been jailed after his single punch led to the death of a stranger after an argument about cycling on the pavement.

Lewis Gill, 20, was given a four-year sentence at Salisbury Crown Court after his attack gave 40-year-old Andrew Young a fatal head injury when he fell.

CCTV cameras recorded the attack outside the Tesco Metro store in Charminster Road, Bournemouth, on November 6, 2013.

The footage shows Mr Young speaking to an acquaintance of Gill's about his cycling.

As the cyclist is seen walking away, Gill moves in to punch him and he falls backwards on the road. Mr Young died the next day at Southampton hospital.

Gill, from Sutton, Surrey, pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

He was given a further six months' imprisonment for other offences committed elsewhere, bringing his sentence to a total of four-and-a-half years in jail.

The sentence was criticised by Mr Young's mother Pamela, who told the Dorset Daily Echo that her son had Asperger's syndrome which affected his social skills.

She said: "He was very precise and particular because of his Asperger's, and he wouldn't have liked seeing someone riding a bicycle on the pavement because it was dangerous."

She said she wished the "awful man" had pleaded not guilty so he could have faced a longer sentence after a trial.

At least he didn't deny it and pleaded guilty to manslaughter.
