A newly released video of a man driving through the Portland Rose Festival's Grand Floral parade route shows him screaming expletives moments before he crashed through parade barriers, sending pedestrians running for their lives.
Prosecutors submitted the video as evidence during a preventive detention hearing, in which a judge decides if a defendant will remain in jail before their trial, according to KGW8.
According to the rules of Multnomah County's Pretrial Services Program — under which the driver, Sidney Mecham of Portland, Oregon, is being held in custody — judges complete risk assessments to determine the risk of the charged individual committing other crimes and the likelihood that they will appear in court, per the county website.
County Judge Judith Matarazzo ultimately approved a state motion to keep Mecham, 42, behind bars before his trial.
Mecham has since pled not guilty to 38 counts related to the incident, per the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office. He was also driving with a suspended license and had no insurance, per KGW8.
The dashcam video shows multiple angles from inside Mecham's car as he grows increasingly frustrated when stuck in traffic caused by the parade.
