Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is a United States holiday marking the birthdate of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., observed on the third Monday of January each year, around the time of King's birthday, January 15. It is one of four United States federal holidays to commemorate an individual person.



King was the chief spokesman for nonviolent activism in the civil rights movement, which successfully protested racial discrimination in federal and state law. He was assassinated in 1968.

Monday is a day off school for Americans and a day off work for some people. How will you be spending your day off?

You think so? That's like making them go to school on Christmas IMO - just because they missed some due to snow doesn't mean MLK is just a day off, it's more than that. It's the celebration of the king!

I think snow days come out of your summer break. Like if there was 10 snow days, then summer vacation would be 10 days shorter.. I wouldnt know, I grew up in the central valley of California and it doesnt snow in my area. It does like an hour north of here though.

I had to work on Monday, unfortunately. Was not as lucky as some of you guys were.

Ah well, I'm taking Friday off for a vacation, so I'm sure that'll make up for it!

In Florida, we have hurricane days instead since it don't snow here. if we have to close school because of a hurricane then they have to go to school on a makeup day otherwise those are days off.

Great vid reading off ten really good quotes from MLK Jr. that we don't hear as often as much as we should. Some of these are scary as to how accurate they speak of today's world even if they were spoken around forty years ago.

I asked my daughter why Martin Luther King was famous (she learned a little about him in school)..

She said Because he had a dream!!

I said What was that dream?

She said I dont know, maybe he forgot it when he woke up like I do sometimes.

I laughed...

I said A long time ago, white people were mean to black people and he tired to help everyone get treated the same.. Because skin color doesnt matter, we are all still people.

She said Yeah, they had a sign that said blacks only.. Thats bad.



Lol.. I think she is too young to understand racism.
