NEW YORK – Computers in companies, hospitals and schools around the world got stuck repeatedly rebooting themselves Wednesday after an antivirus program identified a normal Windows file as a virus.

McAfee Inc. confirmed that a software update it posted at 9 a.m. Eastern time caused its antivirus program for corporate customers to misidentify a harmless file. It has posted a replacement update for download.

McAfee could not say how many computers were affected, but judging by online postings, the number was at least in the thousands and possibly in the hundreds of thousands.

Do any of you use the McAfee antivirus program?

No. I tried McAfee but never really liked it. Looks like I was right. I use Kaspersky on my desktop and AVG on my laptop.

I use Avast and never had a problem. It's a free download program and anyone who wants more information, here is their website: www.avast.com

This random person's comment on that site made me lol.

This is George Bush's fault. If that hanging chad in Florida hadn't got him elected, the economy wouldn't have tanked, Obama would never had been elected, the Chinese wouldn't be hacking Google, trying to get pass words, because we wouldn't owe them our children's financial future, and McAfee probably wouldn't have had to program this particular update...ergo we blame the Tea Partiers because they are mad at our higher taxes, because Obama got elected, the Dems took over congress and Pelosi rammed health care through, the US borrowed money from China to pay for the bail outs who now wants it back and is now hacking US computers causing McAfee to write anti-virus software and publish it it before its tested to counter the Chinese hackers who are backed by the Chinese government, who wants their money back before the US economy recovers from the effects of George Bush being elected because of that dam hanging chad and they lose power and influence in the White House, see simple it's always George Bush's fault.

Makes perfect sense. D:

I use it, and I say it's better than Nortain. I just had a pop-up telling me to scan for the latest updates, but I wasn't on my computer at 9am anyway. So my computer's fine
