Has anyone you know received a medal from the government or a branch of the military?

What for?

My grandfather was a decorated member of the RAF. I didn't get the chance to have much of a relationship with him, but he was a nice person who was proud of his service.

If here were here today, I'd thank him for his service. :)

It would have meant a lot to him, he wasn't the type to seek out attention or brag about things, but he was oh so proud of his career in the RAF. I wish I'd had more of a chance to know him, but family situations being what they are, I wasn't allowed near him more than a couple of times before he passed when I was about 12. I have fond memories, though :)
