I have been dating a guy for just over a month now. His family (Mother, Father, and Brother) are coming to visit him for a week. They are due to arrive on Sunday. He has asked me to come over to meet all of them. I am really nervous about this. What if they all don't like me? Have you ever been in this situation?

Yeah but I don't get nervous. Whatever happens will happen. No biggie.

Yeah, I don't get nervous anymore. I figure I've probably seen the worst father already, so it can only get better.

A month already? How time flies...

Anyway, you'll do fine!

That's one of the problems I have with this family meeting. It's only been a little over a month and it's not like I'm planning on marrying the guy. I feel it's too soon but I don't want to hurt his feelings.

I have yet to go through this situation. But I don't see why its too soon though. I doubt they would be expecting the two of you to get married just after a month of dating. And I'm sure they would like you. What's not to like?

Aww, thank you very much Sci for your kind words!

Ah no prob! Happy to be of some help in some form.

I've dealt with that situation. But really, who gives a crap? You're dating him, not his family.

I would think if a family didn't like you, it could have a negative impact on a relationship.

Not for me. My boyfriend's parents fucking hate me lol, because I'm a college drop-out, so I'm obviously a dumb bimbo who's only after him for his money, etc etc.

Despite the fact I earn more than him, am older, have more qualifications, etc etc.

I think it would only have a negative impact if you let it have that sort of impact.

It's normal to be nervous, but don't let it get to you. Just be yourself. When I met my girlfriend's family I was nervous, but I knew if I stayed true to myself I wouldn't have to worry about them not liking me, because I wouldn't give them a reason not to. Just be you and that's all you can do.

Everything will go fine!

Thank you everyone who responded. Tonight is the night and I'll let you know how it goes.

So, how'd it go?

It went very well with the exception of his brother trying to hit on me.

I'm glad his brother only visits once a year! His mom and dad are very nice people and I felt like I knew them for a long time.

Seriously? What kind of brother does that to his brother!? Glad it went well despite that though!

I was warned ahead of time about his brother. He thinks he's Gods gift to women and is a big flirt. Even though I was warned, he still annoyed me. I just made sure to stay away from him and not be in the same room alone with him.

Good plan.
