(Your Black World) Michael Eric Dyson now works for MSNBC and is known for being colorful in his analysis. But this video does make you think, at least a little bit. He goes all the way back to Bill Clinton, who was proclaimed by many African Americans to be the first black president, even though he wasn’t black.
Dyson’s point appears to be that the “utility of blackness” can be a relevant dimension of one’s ethnic and cultural connections and it’s not always as simple as the color of one’s skin. Dyson says, for example, that “a lot more black people would support Rachel Dolezal than would support say Clarence Thomas.”
This is the first time that Dyson has gained the public’s attention since his nearly 10,000 word blast of fellow scholar Dr Cornel West. Do you listen to black scholars anymore, or do you think that they are too busy fighting each other to also fight for the cause?
