As a forum owner what mistakes have you made?

How bad were they and how did you recover?

As a member, what mistakes have you seen forum owners make? What happened?

One of my biggest mistakes was closing OT, but I am so thankful I found a backup and was able to revive it. Glad to be back! We ain't going anywhere this time! Already been up for well over a year now!

As a forum owner, I handed over a massive code index to the official ZetaBoards (maybe InvisionFree at the time) board without realizing I was not going to be credited for my work of manually putting the code index together and that took a core aspect away from my own forum at the time.

As a member, I have seen a lot of forums start unnecessary drama, sometimes from the forum owner themself.

So many mistakes. It's a part of forum ownership. You learn from making mistakes and you try to grow as a person in doing so. Forums require some proper care and not everything you intend to do works out for the best. It doesn't take much to start something with good intentions and end up the villain, but making those mistakes and learning from them is the single best way to gain experience as a forum owner/operator.
