mom or mommy?

Mom and sometimes Ma. To me, adults who call their mom "Mommy" is a bit cringe.
If Arnold Schwarzenegger or Al Capone had wanted to call their mothers "Mommy", I suppose that would have been A-O-K with me. 
Or... if Elizabeth Taylor wanted to call her father-in-law "Big Daddy" in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, that's okay, too.

Responded to this yesterday, but because of the incident it vanished.
She was mum to me growing up, mother to me as an adult, and now she's just Pat because she doesn't know she's my mother anymore. She only responds to her name.
