Sad, I would guess the mother had some sort of mental snap.

This is truly sad. From the sounds of it, she relapsed into a state of mind where her child was still alive, and removing him from the swing would bring her back into reality with the lifeless body resting in her arms. Truly scary how the mind plays tricks we need them the most. I pray she gets the best care to deal with this, and is able to come back to reality and mourn the loss of her child.
