I moved to a house in a crappy neighborhood about 7 or 8 months ago. Thats why the rent was soo cheap for such a big house. The landlord and neighbors (who moved away now) said that it was a quiet street and that the neighborhood did not live up to its reputation. Boy, was that a big fat lie...

Anyway, I decided that I had enough of this place and put in my notice that I am leaving. Been shopping around for a duplex or apt because they maintain the grounds (well the front yard anyway) and pay the water & garbage bill. If you rent a house, you have to do all the work and pay all the bills.

After a couple rejected applications, I got a call that one of them was accepted it happened to be the one that I wanted the most! Nice sized 2 bedroom duplex that is private... It has a wall dividing the two units down the middle of the driveways that goes almost out to the street. They have private backyards too.. (Other duplexes Ive seen have shared backyards and the front is not separated very well either.)

The best part about it is that its in a nice quiet neighborhood and the rent is cheaper than I pay now.

My credit check came back unsatisfactory and the landlord who sued me gave me a bad reference but my current landlord gave me a great one.. Said I am a good guy and he is sorry to see me go and that he would rent to me again in a heartbeat. .....So they accepted my application but they doubled the deposit due to my circumstances. Which is still affordable because the deposit was already low to begin with (compared to other places). It was $400 and they made it $800.. They had a special going on Half Off 1st Month's Rent so it all worked out fine.

No more living in tweaker/gang-banger-ville anymore. October 1st is moving day!

Congratulations Nebulous!

Congratulations, Nebulous! Glad that it's a place that you like as well!

Wait, I thought it was if you rent a house. The Landlord does all the work on it? Only if you own it, do you do all the work. But congrats!

Congrats Nebulous, that is great news!

Has your daughter seen the new place?

She's seen the outside but she wont remember if I try to explain it to her. We went to go look at several places. Her bedroom will be bigger in the new place so Im sure she will be happy about that. Also there is two parks within walking distance.. One in one direction and one in the other. She loves going to the park.

Anyway I requested Friday the 1st off work because I have to be out of my old house on the 1st and I get the keys to my new house on the 1st as well so I will have only that one day to move all my stuff.

My brother and one of my friends agreed to help me so we can get it done in a couple hours. I'll rent a big moving truck so we only have to make one or two trips.

If this new place turns out to be crappy too you should get a motor home

Yeah right..

Anyway, my brother is going to help me move and I hope he does not flake out on me. He is known for doing that. I have to be out of one place and into the other place on the 1st. I only have that one day, if my helpers dont show up I will have to move everything on my own and I dont think that is possible with some of the things I have. If he and my friend dont show up I will drive to their house and bang on the door.

That's awesome!

Sounds exciting

Give them some motivation to show up and tell you you have a keg of beer and some women waiting for them at your new place.

Are you allowed to move boxes/small items into the new place on the 30th? Would give you a little jump on things if you could and make the move a little faster.

Or maybe you could store some small boxes in your brothers or friends house or garage perhaps?

As Jazzy said, it all helps.

Maybe get your daughter a house-moving present to help her settle in too?

Best of luck with your move. I hope you settle well into your new home and enjoy living there.

Woot! 4 more days.

Today my landlord stopped by. He was here to check up with me to see how things are going and if I am still going to be out by the 1st because he has found another renter. We were chit chatting and a plane flew overhead that was LOUD also at the same time a train went by. I made a comment: Thank god I dont have to be around this anymore. He seemed kind of offended by that comment. He started trying to say all the positive things about this neighborhood and I stopped him and said This neighborhood is miserable and I dont feel safe here especially with a small child. He got all angry and said NAME FIVE THINGS THAT MAKE THIS PLACE MISERABLE. I said ok..

1) The airport is a few blocks away and planes are always flying overhead vibrating my house.

2) There is a train track behind the house and it vibrates my house.

3) There is a homeless shelter around the corner which makes the neighborhood infested with druggies and homeless people 24/7. Also 85% of the people who live in this neighborhood are on drugs.

4) Low lifes walk up and down my street all hours of the night and day scoping out the place. Its only a matter of time before they make their move. Its already happened once, which is why all the screens on the windows are bent. Luckily they gave up and didnt get in.

5) There is gang members living in the house across the street and I think they sell drugs too because I see random cars pulling up here all the time, staying for a minute, then leaving.

6) This new neighbor you moved in is a nightmare to live next to.. She is loud, she has random people over drinking all hours of the night, keeps her 3 yr old up with her all night, she takes my things without asking, etc. etc.

I even threw in a bonus one. I told him I could keep going if he wanted. He said No, you made your point. and then changed the conversation back to discussing me moving out. Guess I put him in his place.

He knows this place is a hell hole but he is in denial. He probably bought this house super cheap when the recession hit and is trying to make some money by renting it out. He's probably made back most of his money by now because I cant see a house in this neighborhood in this economy being over $50,000. From my understanding the guy owns a few cheap houses in bad neighborhoods. What is funny is that he try's to make him self seem like a saint by offering low rent and accepting people who have bad credit. I figure people wont want to pay any more than what he charges and he has to accept people with bad credit because those people are the ones willing to settle for anything after being rejected by stricter landlords/property managers.

Anyway I'm done rambling on.

Should go to bed.

Many people, myself included, take living in a good neighbourhood for granted, and it's nice to know that you and your daughter will feel safer at your new place.

Only a few more days left

Ive lived in an upscale neighborhood when I lived with my grandparents when I was a kid. It was nice. Ive lived out in the middle of nowhere, where the next neighbor was a half a mile away. It was also nice. Ive lived in a semi busy but not-so-ghetto part of town. It was nice too.

This neighborhood sucks. Its by far the worst place to live ever. Had I known it was going to be this bad, I would not have moved here.

often I would like to pay much attention to my rented house, i like my house looks cozy and beautiful, i think it is a good news that theesy you will move to a new place, congratulations!

Went over by my new place monday and seen the painters in there. Stopped by yesterday and seen the people changing out the blinds. Today they should be shampooing the carpet. Hopefully it dries by Friday.

And if not you'll have a nice opportunity to clean your shoes by walking

Nobody cares about shoes.. The carpet will get very dirty if its still wet while me and two other people are moving furniture in there.

Let's hope it dries and it doesn't rain that day. You could always take your shoes and socks off.
