A thug who was caught on CCTV swinging a terrified cat by its tail is being hunted by the RSPCA.
Mowgli, a two-year-old tom, narrowly escaped injury in the ââ¬Åsickeningââ¬Â attack as the unidentified man span him around more than 14 times next to railings and cars, coming within inches of smashing the catââ¬â¢s head on the pavement.
Last night his owner, Michelle Buchanan, asked for the publicââ¬â¢s help in naming the man responsible for the ââ¬Åappallingââ¬Â cruelty.
ââ¬ÅWhat happened is horrific. I just canââ¬â¢t believe that there is anyone out there who would want to do this,ââ¬Â she said. ââ¬ÅThis guy thinks he has got away with it but he must be stopped and held accountable.ââ¬Â
The attack at 8.30am on Oct 29 was witnessed by Miss Buchananââ¬â¢s next-door neighbour, Lynne Jarvis, 62, who ran outside in her dressing gown and confronted the youth and three of his friends who were egging him on.
Mrs Jarvis said: ââ¬ÅI heard a demonic laugh and a commotion and looked outside to see someone swinging something around. At first I thought it was a black cardigan but then I realised it was Mowgli.
ââ¬ÅI put my boots and my dressing gown on and screamed and swore at them, shouting that they were cruel and evil so-and-so's.
ââ¬ÅI think I shocked them because Iââ¬â¢m not a pretty sight that early in the morning and they probably werenââ¬â¢t expecting a pensioner to use the sort of language I did.
ââ¬ÅHe dropped the cat and they all ran off down the street.ââ¬Â
The attack was captured on a CCTV camera outside a pub next to Miss Buchananââ¬â¢s flat, and the footage was handed to the RSPCA by its landlord, Mark Reynolds.
