it wasn't really a complaint, more of a observation about said forum structure and it wasn't posted on a forum that had that type of forum structure...

I recently was told from another forum moderator that I'm not allowed to necro post, or post in old threads as old as 6 months because it is bad for the newer topics made by the other members, even though its not stated in the rules. I didn't protest because he's close knit with the admin, so I didn't raise hell over it. I can only imagine what they might have done.

getting mad at a member for posting is stupid in my opinion...

who cares if members post in old topics? maybe new members want to add something and might spark up the topic again? it frustrates the shit out of me when a forum's staff gets all hot and bothered about people posting when clearly a forum is about posting...

I presume it depends on the context. For example, bumping a thread about the 2010 Superbowl is a bit pointless. If the thread being necro'd actually has discussion value to it, I'm open to it being bumped back up. But if it's some jank that fulfilled its purpose long ago, or the poster in question is posting for the sake of posting (mindless +1 replies for example) I'm against it.

I totally agree with you. I've seen old threads being bumped back up where there was no discussion value left. The person was doing it just to up their post count.

bumping old threads is not a bad thing if you have something good to say...

Usually that seems to be the case. As if post count on a forum really matters anyway.
Its fine if its a good topic and can still be relevant today, and if they have something good to say.

I hate this type of crap from forum mod's/admin's, my take is if someone has taken the time to post on my forum regardless of the age of the thread then great I have another active member with something to say, I mean what the hell dose it matter how old a thread is??? as long as its not time sensitive what is the harm??
