[font=arial,helvetica,sans-serif]So let me get this straight. If you are a big name driver you can say any damned fool thing you want, live on camera, and get told 'you were a bad boy, don't do it again'.

But if you are a Nobody, and say something offensive off camera and just in conversation, NASCAR drops the hammer on you, and possibly ends your career.

Right?

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- MTV on Friday confirmed that Nationwide Series driver Jeremy Clements uttered a racial slur in a conversation with an editor, which led to Clements receiving an indefinite suspension from NASCAR for violating the sport's code of conduct.

The editor, Marty Beckerman, explained in a story published on MTV's website that he attended Saturday's race at Daytona International Speedway to do a fish-out-of-water story about going to NASCAR and having a wild, crazy weekend.

[font=arial,helvetica,sans-serif] Right.

I don't know what the big name driver did or said. All I know is that Jeremy Clements was in clear violation of the rulebook:

The rulebook prohibits public statement that criticizes, ridicules or otherwise disparages another person based on race, color, creed, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, religion, age or handicapping condition.

The thing is though, he didn't do it on TV. He didn't do it in front of thousands of fans. He just used a bad word in a general conversation.

He knew he was being interviewed and admits himself he was wrong:

I will not get into specifics of what I said, but my comment to the writer was in no way meant to be disrespectful or insensitive to anyone or to be detrimental to NASCAR or the NASCAR Nationwide Series. I will do what I need to do in order to atone for my error in judgment.

It's just a word that I wish would go away......in any context that it's used.

You're saying that in a business, the person that makes the company the most money and is the worth the most has the most freedom and independence because they are more important to the company than somebody that isn't valuable? I'm not calling it right, but it makes sense to me.
