Hey there, well registration for public school is going on right now and I am home schooled. Now don't get me wrong, homeschooling was great, the downside though is that we don't have many kids my own age around here and I would really like to make some friends.

I first started thinking about this awhile ago, throughout the past few months, I've seen some of my old friends but now they don't even recognize me. Quite honestly, I can't list three friends. I have three buds who I hang out with, but I don't think I could really count them as friends. Back in public school, I had so many friends, but now...

Anyways though, registration ends on the fifth of this month and I need to figure out how to get my parents to put me back in public school. Last year they were ready to put me back in, but with the Swine flu (which I told them was over exaggerated and turned out to be true) and a young baby, they decided against it. So can you guys give me some ideas on how to address this?

You can enroll in school at any time. A school will accept a kid before school starts, a month in, six months in, and so on (at least around here but I am assuming its like that everywhere). However it would be more beneficial to you if you started the school year from day one.

Anyway, if they were ready to put you back into regular school last year but changed their mind because you were sick, then there shouldn't be much convincing to be done if you are fine now.

Well I wasn't the one sick with Swine flu, anyways though...

I think our school district does allow it, the main thing I'm worried about is the electives/credit hours requirements. Around here we have to do ___ credit hours and electives to graduate and I would rather have it spread out evenly than squeezed together.

I'm sure they would let me, it's just that I'm not sure how to get the courage to actually ask them. I was actually just about to ask my dad but I couldn't do it. Usually I am able to hand situations where I need to speak up for myself just fine but I this time though... I just couldn't do it.

If you want something bad enough then go for it. As a matter of fact, if you want it bad enough, don't ask tell them this is what you want. Tell them how you feel and be honest when you talk with them. Pick a time where they are both available to sit down and listen to you. In other words, it's all up to you and how you present this. What do you have to lose by telling them how you feel and what you want? Stand up and fight for what you want in life because nobody else can do that for you. Good luck and let us know what happens.

Well I gave them a five page paper explaining why I think public school would be better, after they read it we talked about it ultimately ending in a compromise. Basically I'll stay home schooled for another year only I will also be joining 4-H, the youth group at Church, etc. and if I still don't like it, I'll go back to public school next year. No questions asked.
