Neglectful /Non-Existent Parents

How can people be neglectful of their kids and not show them any love or attention?

How can people not want to be involved in their child's life?

That's a question I'll probably never be able to answer, but I can give a few logically reasons why I think parents neglect their kids and do not want to have anything to do with them. First of all, most parents who are neglectful are usually on drugs or are lowlifes/losers. When I say lowlife, I mean a person who has no interest in the future and has no plans on changing to be a better person/parent. Parents without an outlook do not care because they're not in control, they have either been raised that way and have a neglectful attitude towards their life and take it out on their children, or they just do not know the right path in parenthood. Most of the time when I've seen abuse and neglect on the news, it is usually the parents who need more help than the children. I guess that would be my assumption... Parents who do not see the light and hope at the end of the tunnel.
