So sometime this weekend I am going to get a new couch (well new to me) my grandma is giving me her old couch which is still in great shape and is a lot more comfortable and bigger than my current one. I can do some serious relaxing in this beast. ^^

Even though it doesn't appear dirty, I want to attempt to clean it some how. Maybe I'll buy a couple of bottles of frebreeze and spray and spray until the bottles are empty. Not sure.

 Do you have any tips or suggestions for cleaning fabric on furniture?

RE: Cleaning Fabric on Furniture

It really depends on what it's made of and what's on the inside under the fabric. You may not want to go with water and soap for a minor issue, but dousing it in Febreeze and vacuuming it could help a lot.

RE: Cleaning Fabric on Furniture

Yeah maybe I could unzip the cushions and take the stuffing out, then wash the covers in the washer. But I really don't like doing that because the shape of the cushion is always funky for a while afterwards.

What's wrong with the couch anyway? Are there stains or something that needs to be washed off? If it's "clean" enough, I'm sure you could just spray it with something, let it sit and then it'd be fine.

Nothing is wrong with it visually, no stains. My brother lives with her and who knows what he's up to when he's home alone. XD
...but yeah you're probably right

If the fabric won't get ruined by it, you could sprinkle some baking soda on the fabric, let it sit and then vacuum it up. After that, you can spray it with something. The baking soda should absorb any lingering odors.

Can't hurt to try! Just as long as it won't ruin the fabric or clump up or something.

No such luck, still stuck with my old couch because the 2 people I know with a truck were being unreliable. :(

Maybe next weekend I'll be able to get someone to help me. :dontknow:------------------------------------------------------------------

Got someone coming with a truck today!------------------------------------------------------------------Merged my posts above . :P

New couch is here, I went over with a broom outside, then I got it inside and put the brush attachment on the vacuum hose and thoroughly vacuumed every aspect of it, went over it with a wet cloth and sprayed air freshener on it, just like new now.

Soooo big and comfy! Major improvement over my last couch. :!!:

Glad you were finally able to get the couch!

(changed the title of this thread, because I don't need advice anymore and came up with a solution)

Me too. Actually there was a little drama around the whole couch thing. I had brought my old couch to my grandmas house and wanted to stick it in her garage so I didn't have to throw it out. Its still good in good shape, its just a little dirty and needs to be cleaned. My daughter didn't want to get rid of it because it belonged to my mom. So we thought we'd store it in my grandma's huge garage and that would be fine. Well I didn't ask before hand, I just assumed it would be okay. It wasn't okay, despite our reasoning. She said something like "I don't care why you brought it or what you have to do, but its not staying here!" ...My brother called one of his friends who could use a "new" couch and so we had to load up the old couch on top of the new couch that was already on the truck and tie it down as best we could. We were able to transport the old couch to my brother's friends house, drop it off and then take my new couch home. I suppose it all worked out, two people got their couches upgraded instead of just me. I called back to say sorry AND thanks to my grandma and all is right with the world now. :P

Love this couch

Even though it's clean, I'm gonna take all the cushions out and vacuum it all one more time, then douse it in this:

Soak it before work and it should be dry when I get home. ^^

Got home from work and put my couch back together every feels and smells so fresh and clean. Febreze really works!

Febreze is amazing. I really hate being in the same room when I've just sprayed it because it's just too strong for me, but after that when the scent has dissipated and/or you can just faintly smell the freshness, it's so much better.

Now it's at that point, the couch is perfect now. ^^
Can't wait to get home and melt into it.
