Nintendo has announced a brand new value package for Wii to target Christmas shoppers, featuring a reconfigured, streamlined version of the popular motion-controlled console.

The “Family Edition” bundle will include the new streamlined white console, which has been altered in order to sit horizontally rather than vertically, a Wii Remote Plus controller, nunchuk sub-controller and copies of Wii Sports and Wii Party.

Unlike previous editions, however, the new Wii console will not be compatible with Gamecube games and accessories, including the Gamecube’s chunky controller. Nintendo did not reveal the price of the new unit.

This is the first time the Wii console has been redesigned since its release in 2006, and the budget package and announcement of further value bundles appear to be a final push for the Wii before Nintendo release their successor, Wii U, next year. The Nintendo Wii has proved hugely popular, selling over 87 million units worldwide.

The Japanese videogames giant also announced that The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword would join this year’s November scrum of video game titles on the 18th.

Who wants one for Christmas?

That looks EXACTLY like my Wii. What a rip-off, especially since most good games are on the Gamecube. Getting real sick of Nintendo's gimmickery now.

Kind of stupid to take out gamecube controllers, a lot of really good Wii games use them (Brawl, for example).

You can still use a Wii Classic controller with it. It's the same shit, but the Classic controller doesn't work with Gamecube games. I learned this to my own peril with Phantasy Star Online.
