What was the worst non-life threatening illness you've ever had?

Pneumonia.

Well, I guess it could have gotten life-threatening, but my life wasn't in any critical danger. I do have asthma though, so it just made things even worse, more painful. It sucked a lot. Some of the worst pain I've experienced in my chest ever. I had to go on vicodin for it.

Tonsillitis.

I had a sore throat, fever, pain with swallowing, headache, runny nose, ear pain and red blisters in the back of my throat. I could barely swallow even soup or soft food. It's something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.

Three weeks after I had recovered fully, I had my tonsils removed.

No Contest:

I ended up with one of the Epstein-Barr viruses as an adult.

It is one of those that, if you're a kid, you may not even notice you've been infected, but if you're in your thirties, you're going to play hell getting over it.

I was about the sickest I've ever been for a month. The two physicians I saw couldn't do anything. And it took forever to get better.

The short version of what it is comes down to "designer mono".

People who get symptoms from EBV infection, usually teenagers or adults, get better in 2 to 4 weeks. However, some people may feel fatigued for several weeks or even months.
