MONTEBELLO, Calif. -- It was like a scene out of the Old West: a lone gunman surrounded by a posse of lawmen hell-bent on stopping him.
But in this digital age, the scenario played out on an East Los Angeles-area street, where an unlicensed security guard exchanged gunfire with numerous police officers as the entire event was captured on live television.
The showdown started Monday afternoon following a 90-minute televised police chase. The battle ended with the death of security guard Jorge Alberto Jimenez, falling like his Western counterparts in a pool of blood on the spot where he made his last stand.

It appears that it resulted in a suicide by cop, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. Dave Coleman told reporters at the scene, adding that Jimenez was shot several times.
New information is surfacing today about the death of Jimenez, 31, who worked as a security guard and was the brother of a Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy. His license expired last year and he did not have a permit to carry a gun.
