This one is definitely different from the Delta variant. It seems to be stronger and the current vaccines do seem to be ineffective against it, so hopefully they can sort that out and combat it!
It seems to change every day. One day it's stronger, the next it's weaker, now they're unsure...I'm no scientist, so I'll step out of the argument until there's more useful information available.Sure about that? Recent news puts experts being unsure how this stacks against other variants.
That’s the annoying part they’re saying Omicron is going to put the world back in to lockdown and now they’re saying it’s not a huge threat. Tomorrow they be saying something else.It seems to change every day. Yeah, it is annoyingThat’s the annoying part they’re saying Omicron is going to put the world back in to lockdown and now they’re saying it’s not a huge threat. Tomorrow they be saying something else.
Well now there’s a IHU variant detected in France, we are still not having much luck in this going anywhere anytime soon..Yeah, it is annoying. Though, I guess that's what happens when something is new, and little is known about it: the evidence changes rapidly; one team of scientists puts out a study which says one thing; another team of scientists puts out another study which says something else; and the scientific community has to examine both theories to see which, if either, is correct. (And it doesn't help that the media straight-up sucks at reporting science: they make everything sound so certain, even while scientists are still in the "figuring it out" phase, where they're still gathering evidence and testing all the competing theories)
With that being said, Omicron looks a lot less scary than it did a month ago. I'm going by the case numbers in South Africa (which was one of the first countries to be hit hard by Omicron). The cases rose at an alarming rate for about three weeks... but then, they started crashing back down again:

Let's hope the same thing happens in the UK, and our own case numbers (which have been rising to scarily-high levels since Omicron) start dropping again soon.
