At the time, that's something that really hurt, but now that person is in the past and our relationship didn't matter in the grand scheme of things.

I've been called trailer trash before too. I grew up poor and sometimes my clothes came from thrift stores or garage sales and old ones that couldn't be thrown away had holes in them.

I don't think I've ever given another person that kind of power over me to "crush my soul", as you put it, Nebulous. I don't put much stock in what other people have to say about me. I refer to a quote I read somewhere; What someone else thinks of you is none of your business. Or something to that effect. It just doesn't matter to me.

"Soul crushing" is a bit of a dramatic way to say that someone's words hurt your feelings...
