Do you leave your porch / outside lights on at night when you are sleeping?

Yes.. Otherwise people will think nobody is home and try to break in.

... At least thats what I think will happen.

No because I have sensor lights on my property. They pick up any movement and light up the whole house

It's bad in a way because an animal or heavy winds will set them off. They turn off only if the movement stops and is not close to the house. They are on timers and gawd help anyone trying to break in because they will be blinded by all the lights

We don't leave our porch lights on, but we do have a large light on the telephone pole outside - it lights up the whole driveway, and of course it shines right in my room

My room is still very bright at night XD

I leave my porch light on so i can see who is knocking at night.

I leave my switch on. So it tends to turn on and off by itself. Very handy when you need to see your house key at night.

Our porch light is like that too.

Mine are sort of broken sensor lights. They're triggered by movement, and are on a timeswitch so they don't start being able to be turned on via the sensors until 9PM. But I've jump up and down in front of them and they haven't turned on, so I think I need to replace them.

I have a motion sensor light the drive way but it doesnt work. The light is either on or of... No inbetween.

In Hawaii, no. Once everyone goes to bed the house is pitch black.

In Malaysia, yes. We have porch lights on timer, from 7:30pm till 6:00AM the next day.

They're more likely to think no one is home if they're on.

Generally they are there to help people see the lock and the way ot the door in the dark...

Ours are off at night.

Not around here. There is a lot of empty homes due to bank foreclosures and whatnot. If a house is completely dark that is a signal that it is abandoned and crack heads / homeless people are drawn to those houses like flies to shit.

Also you have a bigger chance of someone breaking in when your house is pitch black. When its all lit up outside a robber is not going to be as confident standing at your window or door trying to get in. More chance of someone spotting him/her and calling the police.
