CAIRO, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The Greene County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) announced that a second arrest has been made following an investigation into the neglect of multiple horses in Cairo. Vincent Melapioni, 59, of Staten Island, was charged with agriculture and markets law: failure to provide proper sustenance.
The sheriff’s office executed a search warrant at a property on Kirwin Road in Cairo on May 7 following a report that 15 Peruvian Paso horses were not properly being cared for. 13 of the horses at the property were found to be emaciated after being examined by veterinarians.
Melapioni is the owner of the animals, according to the GCSO. Skylar Nolan, 25, of Cairo, was initially charged on May 7.
Melapioni was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Cairo Court at a later date and time. The Columbia-Greene Humane Society/Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals assisted the sheriff’s office.
