I joined a forum where you had to pay money if you wanted to use a custom avatar and signature. I did it for 6 months and then did not renew as I felt I shouldn't really waste money on something other forums offer for free.
I would not pay to join a forum. There are plenty of forums out there that you can join for free, and I'd rather join one of them instead. I mean, I know nothing comes for free anymore (both offline and online) but even still, that would be one more expense to add, and it's not one I would welcome.
there're places like that?
I wouldn't either, not when there's probably better free forums out there.

True, although I suppose you could look at it from another side and say kids have more disposable money! Before I had my own place I had saved up pocket money and wages from my part time job and had money to spare, now it's all gotta go on bills or other things, not paying for forums for sure!
