How has parenting changed over the years?

I see a big change from when I was growing up. I had rules I had to follow and meals were always eaten at the table with my family. I have listed some of the rules I had to follow. They may sound strict to some of you but they have helped me become the person I am today.



Rules

• Always repect elders whether or not you agree with them
  
• If you want something, then earn your own money to buy it
  
• If you're going to be late coming home, call and let someone know
  
• Dinner is served at 5 pm and if you want dinner, you better be home or you don't eat
  
• Cannot leave the house until all assigned chores are completed
  
• No TV, phone calls or computer until all homework has been completed
  
• Bedtime on school days will be no later than 9 PM.
  
• If you want a pet, it's your responsibility to take full care of it
  
• Do not use foul language

Today, I'm seeing that children (not all mind you) are lacking rules and family structure in their lives. I have been cussed at by very young children and it makes me shudder. I see families thinking that McDonalds is a home cooked meal. I've heard children speak to elders in such a way, I wanted to smack them myself. Not sure if this is caused by bad parenting skills or if the family unit is torn apart by divorce or economic times. All I can say is this is our future generation being raised and without parental guidence, gawd help us all!

I think all babies should come with instruction books.

Doesn't every generation say this? I'm sure it's true, kinda hard to deny it, but the world hasn't ended yet so I'm not going to worry... yet
