What do you think of patient-assisted suicide?

If the patient has no will to live then why should anyone tell them otherwise? Why not let them die with dignity?

If you were on life support and there is slim hope to improving and no hope to return to normal life would you want someone to pull the plug?

Why keep someone alive knowing that they will eventually die in a later stage in life? Would it have made a difference?

Maybe it's just my fatalistic view, but death is natural, it's beautiful, there is no more suffering involved afterwards. If I were in a coma and living like a vegetable I would want someone to do the coup de grace and put me out of my misery. I don't make sense to my existence nor have I any expectations but for death itself. Death is the one true fate we all share equally - all the creatures of this earth big and small. Sometimes I feel that hope is but an illusion.

Whether I want to live and fight until my last breath and the total exhaustion of all my fiscal resources or not should be a decision left up to me and my family with suitable input by my doctor and NOT up to the Government.

Period.

However, under the coming new healthcare rationing scheme, that won't be the case.

And before you start shouting otherwise, go read the thing.

End Of Life counseling was in the bill, it was ripped out, then resurfaced later, only to be detoured around again.

It will be back, because without it, the system is even more financially unstable.

One article on it:

and no, it isn't FOX, we all know what kind of haters they are.

While you're at it, give this a read as to what they are saying, and what they Are Not:

Something along the lines of basic human right comes to mind. Forcing a doctor to kill someone against their (the doctor's) will would, however, be wrong.

No. I wish to die by pulling my own plug.

Assisted suicide should be legal for any and everyone.
Provided they are in a suitable mental state to make such a decision.

I've never understood why attempted suicide is a crime. If a person has no will to live, why should there be any law saying that they have to??
Probably because they pay taxes...

Don't really get it myself either.

Exactly. Maybe get a second opinion from another doctor too.
