Penguins, as we’re sure you know dear reader, are aquatic birds.
In fact, the reason they can’t fly is because their shortened wingspan lessens drag in the water, and their dense wing bones make them less buoyant.
But hand-reared Charlotte, who has lived at Birdland Park & Gardens in Gloucestershire since she hatched, was an apparent exception to the rule that penguins are made for water, and would do pretty much anything to avoid having to get in the pool like the rest of her colony.
In an attempt to get the penguin to act, well, more like a penguin, head keeper Alastair Keen donned a wet suit and goggles and put Charlotte on an intensive course of swimming lessons.
And after just a few days of training, Charlotte has overcome her fear.

Awe, I was following this story when they first mentioned her fear of the water! So good to see her progress!
