This might be a lil long and I apologize for that. It's my kids' doctor, she's an idiot and I've been trying to get them another doctor, but we live in such a small town, all other doctors have a waiting list. I've been waiting for a year calling each month to be told to wait some more. *sigh*
Anyways, back in 2008, I was told that my daughter (Jade) appears to have ADHD and I should get her checked out. So I took her to her doctor who didn't even test her, just said that she didn't have it. I then took her to another doctor and explained the situation and he kindly evaluated Jade and observed her for the longest time. He came to me and told me that she did have ADHD. I've tried medication, but it didn't help and the Psychologist told me there was nothing more he could do, so she's been off medicine for 2 years or more now. Well, I have a 6 year old son (Cameron), who 3 years ago was diagnosed with Autism. It was not 'his' doctor that diagnosed him, I requested the state to have a doctor evaluate him, as I would be requesting money from the state to help me care for him. Cameron has had a lot of people working with him to get him where he is today. Birth to Three sent in 4 teachers and a speech therapist to work with him each week from the time he was a year old til he turned 3. At the age of 3, he went to a pre-school for mentally handicapped children and 3 teachers worked with him there (his normal classroom teacher, a speech therapist, and an OT). Well just last year he started normal school and it was a disaster! I warned the school that he might not adjust well because Cameron doesn't deal with change well. This year he's in 1st grade and I've already had to meet with the teacher about him.
I was told that they want to stick Cameron in BD classes. This stands for 'Behavior Disorder'. These classes are for kids who are so bad and disruptive... kids they can't do anything with. My son needs to be placed in a special needs class, they have classes for kids with Autism, but they are in other schools and it's very hard to get your child placed in a school that is not in your district. If Cameron is put in BD classes, he will not get the proper help he needs and everything I've done up til now will become ruined and he will regress and become worse! So his teacher sat down with me and explained that if I could get his records where he was diagnosed with Autism, then I might have a case to get him proper help. She also told me that I should have his doctor test him for ADHD.
So, I took him to see his doctor and filled out a paper. Then I had to take a paper to his teacher to fill out. I also requested the state to send over his medical records regarding his Autism. I go in to see his doctor to get the results from her and I could just scream! First off, a nurse comes in and Cameron's just bouncing off every wall and she's like, "Oh wow he's a hyper on isn't he? What are y'all here for?" I explain we are there to get his results from his ADHD test and she's like, "Oh he's definitely got ADHD." Then she laughs which I had to look at her and ask her what was so funny. Well I guess I offended her cause she rushed outta the room and never came back. The doctor kept walking by saying she'd be right in... 30 mins later....
In comes this doctor. She tells me that according to the paper I filled out, he does have ADHD, but the paper his teacher filled out fell short. She said Cameron was 'borderline ADHD'. What? So she explained that on a scale of 10, Cameron hits about 9.9%. Ok, so isn't that pretty much a positive test result then? This moron then tells me that because he makes good grades, he doesn't fully have ADHD because kids with this disorder can't focus and make good grades. But if my paper says he is and his teacher's paper says he almost is... doesn't adding them together come up with a yes? I mean how do you get a maybe? So he's just ADHD sometimes? Lol. xD Come on lady, you're an idiot. She never believed Jade had ADHD and now that Jade is failing school, she says she is. Cameorn is 10 times worse than Jade, but he's only 'borderline'?
So I explain to her that without a proper diagnosis, they would put him in the wrong classes and he wouldn't be able to get the proper education. I explain that I'm still waiting on his records to show he's got Autism and his doctor looked at me and said, "Oh he doesn't have Autism." I told her that he was tested 3 years ago and a doctor found that he does. She said, "That was 3 years ago, he has grown out of it by now." Umm... no! Autism is a mental defect, people can cope with it and learn to live with it, but it doesn't just go away! I asked her why he thought he didn't have Autism and she says, "Because he makes good grades. You can't make good grades and have Autism." Really? What about Albert Einstein? Amadeus Mozart? Sir Isaac Newton? Thomas Jefferson? Michelangelo? I could keep going, but my point is that these are all smart people, famous for the things they did... also all suffered from Autism!
Hopefully his Autism diagnoses will be good enough because his doctor says she'll right up a paper for his school stating she thinks he's 'borderline ADHD'. Of course I've had enough of her and her stupidity... I did get smart with her in the office yesterday, so now she's making me wait 3 weeks before I can pick up the results to give to his school... what a b*tch! I really need to change doctors... I just hope Cameron gets put in the right class.
