A group of 25 performing lions from Bolivian circuses are preparing for a new life in Colorado, in the US.

The move is a victory for animal rights activists and follows a landmark decision two years ago, when Bolivia became the first country to ban the use of all animals in circuses.

One of the youngest cubs is just 13-weeks-old.

Since the ban was passed animal rights activists, headed by Animal Defenders International (ADI), have been working with local officials to get the animals in good condition for their journey.

President of ADI, Jan Creamer, said the cubs used to be pulled from their mother for photographs with the public.
