Another 14 pets died from antifreeze poisoning in Somerset in recent weeks.

It is feared that the recent spate of slayings may be the handiwork of the same person thought to be behind 34 other cat deaths in Somerset in the past few years.

All the cats are understood to have been killed by eating food laced with antifreeze, which causes the animals to suffer a slow and painful death.

Police and animal welfare workers have previously investigated a series of similar cat deaths in Bridgwater and Stogursey, Somerset.

But pet owners and police fear the so-called “cold cat killer” is now targeting the feline population in nearby Taunton where the most recent deaths occurred.

Anyone found guilty of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal faces a six-month prison sentence and a £20,000 fine under the Animal Welfare Act 2006.

This is very sad that some sick bastard is doing this to these poor cats. Hope they catch this person and do it soon!

Somerset ain't to far from me & Boogie, as that is where St Giles kennels is, that is an hour away.

That's a little worrying. Recently quite a few cats have gone missing in my area too.

My cat is an indoor cat. I would never let her outside for fear of something like this happening. Not sure why cat owners let their cats wander around outside to being with.

If you have a cat, do you let your cat go outside?

We had a neighbor several years ago who got upset with me when I would run her cat out of my yard, and occasionally out of the garage.

She thought she was allowed to let her cat prowl at will and do whatever it did.

Some time later I noticed that it hadn't been around for awhile and later had a chance to ask her about it.

She said it just vanished one day and didn't know what had happened to it.

It's the perfect solution for people with small homes, right?

Not in my opinion. Cats don't take up much space and they love to run around and entertain themselves. If you're going to get a cat to put outside then why even bother getting one?
