The Philadelphia Phillies have traded outfielder/first baseman John Mayberry Jr. to the Toronto Blue Jays for minor-league third baseman Gustavo Pierre, the Phillies announced Sunday. Since it's still not Sept. 1, the waiver trade means Mayberry can be a part of the Blue Jays' postseason roster, should they make it that far.

Mayberry, 30, is hitting .213/.304/.418 (101 OPS+) with seven doubles, six homers and 21 RBI in 138 plate appearances this season.

Don't expect Mayberry to get many starts, as this appears to be a depth-driven move.

Pierre, 22, spent 105 games in High-A and eight games in Double-A this season. He's hitting .260/.281/.389 with 24 doubles, eight homers and 43 RBI between the two stops.
