So it's live on phpbb.com and I have a funny feeling a release version will be made available this week.

I must say that phpBB is my new favorite forum software. I just love how 3.1 is done and love the features they're making 'official' including a board rules and pages extension.

Yes, phpBB 3.1 MODs are called extensions and are a hell of a lot easier to install etc. No more messy yucky code. Just put the files where they are meant to go and enable the MOD and there you go you've got it. Just need to assign permissions and set them up.

I am extremely happy that phpBB has finally got through their heads most if not all the things I wanted implemented. Especially last topic titles.

So will you decide to use it? If so why? If not why?

Well for starters they have instant post redirect, latest topic titles, notifications, and gravatars by default so no need to install features for those.

A few of the features are posted about here -> https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=2233216

I love how it's responsive so no mobile theme needed. A certain other software starting with M and ends in BB isn't responsive ;)

3 days, 12 hours & 5 minutes till the release of gold.

What's funny is there is f*ck all extensions that have been developed yet. So it looks a bit s*it on that side; plus there is no decent styles been developed yet.

I will be using the paid 3.0 theme I purchased a little while ago when they upgrade it to 3.1 for my American Horror Story forum opening sometime in the near future.

That's the downside of new software version releases. Yeah the basic software is ready to use, but all the extra stuff you need/want is not there yet. Gotta wait a while.

I am thinking I may as well just port Ultimate Points myself to 3.1

So it's been released. But there are f*ck all extensions and it's in gold now................

Dunno if that means phpBB is a load of crap and has let me down or what.

PhpBB , beautiful boards and the release is something incredible. I don't really have the cash to upgrade my forum to that software, but if and when I do. I def, will.

It's a free software, you don't need money to convert.

Don't you need to pay for their hosting?

Nope.

I thought PhpBB was just like IPB.

I owned an IPB once, but then I got 100 + members and it was way to expensive, I mean way to expensive to run. My uptime was 25% cause I couldn't afford the next server package.

Really? How expensive was it? I had an IPB forum with over 200 members and it was only $30 per month.

I kept getting down time because I was on the $30 a month package and I'd have anywhere from 50-100 active users on at a time. Not registered. Register members like 1200. Then I got so many bots and spiders going, I was pruning and purging them , but they were also killing my server.

So I emailed them, saying , listen I can't afford double what i'm paying to keep my forum up and I can't just tell members to visit less frequently and not at same times, so may I please get some sort of help. So for ONE month they bumped me free out of gratitude and it was going fine, we grew and then it just went down again. -- _ --;;;

Wow! That's impressive. How did you get so many members, and what type of forum did you have? What niche?
