This Latin American snack fun to make and a great alternative to potato chips. They might look
like bananas, but plantains are often referred to as a cooking banana.

3 Large green plantains, peeled and very thinly sliced (unripe works best)
Vegetable oil
Salt, to taste
Cover plantain slices with iced water and let stand 30 minutes.
Drain and pat dry.
Heat about 1 inch of oil in a saucepan to 375 degrees F.
Fry 10-15 plantain slices at a time in t he oil for about 2 minutes, turning occasionally.
Remove with a slotted spoon when golden brown.
Drain on paper towels and sprinkle with salt.

Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 20 minutes
Ready in: 30 minutes

Never made my own but I sometimes buy the bags at the grocery store. They have some flavored ones which are good if you like garlic.

So they aren't sweet like banana chips?

I've had these before. My friend made them and they have a taste, like Doc said, you need to acquire. I, personally, didn't like or dislike them.
