Playstation And XBox Live Hacked; Still Offline

XBox Live and PlayStation both got hacked on Christmas. A group called Lizard Squad, who describe themselves as “Next Generation Grinch”, claimed responsibility on Twitter.

According to Business Insider, threats were made that a “Christmas gift” would be delivered if Sony Pictures Entertainment, parent to Playstation, went on to release The Interview, which has been made available online as well as opening in select theaters.

Both Sony and Microsoft acknowledged the issue online.

The latest tweet from Playstation was posted on December 26:
"Our engineers are continuing to work hard to resolve the network issues users have experienced today. Thanks for your continued patience!"
— Ask PlayStation (@AskPlayStation) December 26, 2014

Microsoft also has been updating news on their XBox Live support page:“Are you having a tough time launching the IGN application?,” reads its status website. “We’re aware of the issue, and we’re working to provide a fix ASAP! Thanks for staying patient in the meantime. We’ll fill you in as soon as we know more.”

As a demand the Lizard Squad hacking group tweeted that they won’t stop until they get 10,000 retweets.

Since the cyber attack Microsoft Xbox spokesman Sean McCarthy didn’t mention any details on whether they were ready for security breaches because of “The Interview”.

Lizard Squad is no joke. They caused the public danger in August when they forced an American Airlines jet to make an emergency landing. Apparently they were threatening John Smedley, online entertainment president for Sony.

Any of you experiencing problems?

I haven't in a while but I'll post back and let you know.

The Lizard Squad is part of Anonymous. Anonymous being their primary name and the Lizard Squad just being the name of the team doing the hacking. I should know, they posted this on a forum that belongs to Anonymous that I am an active member of.

Each Anon is given his own name and own team if he proves his worth. I am part of a group that protests. My hack skills are not the best.

They don't plan to let up any time soon. The 10,000 re tweets is just a mind fuck. They're messing with them.

Lizard Squad, Black Hats, and the Guardians of Peace are all under Anonymous. Each country that the anon operate are given a different name. Anonymous is primary operating on Twitter.

The Lizard Squad is operating under Operation Avengers where Anonymous is hacking government and corporate servers. Everyone is a target.

Thats all I know. Thanks.

XBL is back up but PSN is still down which really sucks, they are taking there pleasant time... I wanted to download some games for my PS4 :(

Let's just all blame North Korea and The Interview.

Heh, I am watching that right now.

Doesn't matter to me, I can't do shit with this shitty internet that I have. So I always play my PS3 games offline.

Haven't been on PSN in a little while. I want to try it now since my friend just bought a PS4, but he doesn't have AC: Unity yet, so I guess we can't co-op until he gets it!

I can download stuff just fine. I just can't actually play online. Kinda annoying. What exactly is their reason for doing this? Because as far as I can tell, they're just basement-dwelling neckbeards with nothing to do but thumb-fuck their own arses.

I don't have an Xbox One. Plan on getting one sometime next year when Halo 5 comes out.

If I had a dime for everytime PSN went down.

I'd make my own alternate network.

Apparently they did it to show that Sony and Microsoft could do better security-wise.

BRB, bombing a church to prove that God could do better at protecting people

LOL, you'd be rich. :D

If they're doing it to help improve the security of servers, that'd make sense; but, why do it on Christmas or around Christmas when a majority of people get their games and are looking to play online?

Maybe Xbox should give us all free membership, for more than one month.

Cheap f*cks.

I wish the Xbox memberships were free, like PSN; but, then their service would probably be down just as often.

Wasn't the first time this has happened and probably won't be the last time either.
