Podesta's UFO Tweet Was No Joke
One Tweet that slipped under the radar last week may turn out to be vastly more important than anything else seemingly rocking our world — from the growing threat of ISIS to the fading star of Brian Williams or even the cultural shock effect of the 50 Shades of Grey movie. When all those were making news headlines, this Tweet came from outgoing senior Obama adviser John Podesta. Here it is:
If you'll visit @Podesta44 on Twitter, you'll see that John Podesta put this on a list with his favorite moments and biggest regrets from his White House stint over the past year that ended for him on Friday.
That's right — on Podesta's Top Ten list — the number one position goes to "Finally, my biggest failure of 2014: Once again not securing the #disclosure of the UFO files."
John Podesta is a serious Washington power-player. He spent four years as President Bill Clinton's Chief of Staff. In 2008, President Obama brought him in to run his transition team. He then left to work for the Center for American Progress, only to return to the White House in 2014 where he was largely responsible for Obama's new embrace of executive orders. Now he's likely to take the top political position with the Hilary Clinton presidential campaign. At the beginning of his career, with a law degree from Georgetown University, he was a counsel to the Senate Judiciary Committee. In every job he's had, he's shown himself to be powerfully committed to openness in government and protection of the environment. He's the consummate D.C. insider.
It is possible, as some skeptical Washington reporters tried to lamely spin it, to think that somehow this was a wink-wink joke that Podesta was putting over on everyone. Hey, UFOs are ridiculous, right? He couldn't actually mean what he wrote, they practically shouted!
Except that John Podesta is very sober in his assessment when it comes to the topic of UFOs. He believes that there are classified files that need to be released on the topic. He's on the record as holding this opinion and everyone who knows him knows this. Including Barack, Bill and Hilary, and hundreds of powerful senators, congressmen and cabinet members.
Now they also know, as we do, that his chief regret from the last year of his executive service is being unable to provide the American people the truth about UFOs.
Don't take my word for it. Take Podesta's.
At a 2002 press conference organized by the Coalition for Freedom of Information, Podesta spoke on the importance of disclosing government UFO investigations and their results to the public.
"It’s time to find out what the truth really is that’s out there. We ought to do it, really, because it’s right. We ought to do it, quite frankly, because the American people can handle the truth. And we ought to do it because it’s the law.”
Because this is very important that you understand the man's seriousness, please take a minute to hear it from his own mouth. Here's a YouTube clip of him speaking in public just over a year after leaving the Clinton White House Chief of Staff gig. Does this man sound like he's kidding around?

Podesta further solidified his position nine years later in 2011 by writing the Foreword for Leslie Kean's riveting book UFO's: Generals, Pilots and Government Officials Go on the Record. In that Foreword, Podesta wrote:
"The time to pull the curtain back on this subject is long overdue... it is definitely time for government, scientists, and aviation experts to work together in unraveling the questions about UFOs that have so far remained in the dark."
Remember that these words come from a man who has advised two presidents (and, possibly, soon a third).
It's not like U.S. Presidents haven't gone on-the-record on this topic. Bill Clinton has been remarkably open (mostly after leaving office) in a variety of settings, and Barack Obama has been remarkably closed (mostly because the media and the Republicans would have a field day if he acted like he took the subject seriously). Hilary knows what Podesta thinks and she's still willing to bring him into her campaign in a big way
Going back to Harry Truman, who requested regular briefings on the flying saucer issue and got them, there's a history of presidential interest. In particular, Gerald Ford, as a congressman, fought for hearings on flying saucers when multiple unexplained reports were coming out of his native Michigan. Jimmy Carter said that he'd seen a UFO and would release the records as a candidate but got into office and dropped the subject without explanation. Ronald Reagan saw a UFO himself, reported it, and famously spoke before the United Nations about how the world would come together if there were an alien invasion to combat.
If you want to know more about John Podesta, there's a story in today's New York Times about him and his likely influence in the new Clinton campaign.
"Perhaps no other unelected Democrat has shaped his party as much over the last two decades. As Mr. Clinton’s chief of staff, as founder of the left-leaning Center for American Progress and most recently as Mr. Obama’s counselor, Mr. Podesta has pushed his party toward a more aggressive approach to both policy and politics."
It's a lengthy write-up about the Chicago-born Podesta, a man whose father never finished high school and worked in factories, but pushed his son to go to college where he fought his way to the top tiers of American power. In any case, toward the end of the article, the New York Times offers only this on his UFO connection:
"In a series of Twitter posts on Friday listing his 10 favorite memories in the Obama White House, he devoted half to environmental issues. A longtime aficionado of extraterrestrial lore — he kept a little shrine to “The X-Files” in his Clinton White House office — he also wrote that “my biggest failure of 2014: Once again not securing the #disclosure of the UFO files. #thetruthisstilloutthere.”
So, there you have it, this "longtime aficionado of extraterrestrial lore" who kept "a little shrine to 'The X-Files'" in his office says he wants the truth to come out but despite being as close to power as practically anybody gets without being president, he's never pulled it off. At least not so far.
None of Podesta's interest, of course, is proof of anything and this post of mine on the topic is not the place to lay all the facts out. Basically, what I'm saying is this:
John Podesta is speaking and Tweeting on this topic for a reason. It's an authentic phenomenon that has been studied by sober, serious people, quite often in the militaries of our country and many others, for nearly 70 years now.
Finally, let's return to the specific words in that Tweet heard round the world — "biggest failure of 2104: Once again not securing the disclosure of the UFO files." If it was a failure from the last year, then it means that he tried to do exactly what he failed at — securing disclosure of UFO files — and that means he must have talked to President Obama on the subject, or someone else pretty far up the chain of command who could actually get the job done. And that person or persons told him it wasn't going to happen, at least not now.
John Podesta has put himself into a corner of his own making with this Tweet. He has raised the issue in a prominent way and, as a public figure on the government payroll, and now as a political operative for a presidential campaign, he needs to explain himself in order to provide the very transparency that he has spent his career fighting for. At minimum, I'd suggest that Podesta has to answer these three basic questions:
For years now, I've thought that there's another shoe that's going to drop sooner than later. I've co-written a book on the subject with Richard Dolan, "A.D. After Disclosure: When the Government Finally Reveals the Truth about Alien Contact." This is what we believe:
"The issue that was hushed up by one generation, then turned into an object of derision by another, now demands to be heard straight up in ours."
A change is coming. John Podesta knows and is showing rare political courage in speaking out on this controversial subject. Good for him. Still, having taken this one very public step, he cannot stop there. He must disclose the rest of the story behind his failure to obtain disclosure. It's time for John Podesta to go fully on the record on this important issue.

- What specific actions did you take to try to secure UFO files during 2014?
