YUBA CITY, Calif. -- A Yuba City teenager is in danger of being deported after she tried to raise money for a prom dress by selling pot-laced brownies.

Apparently, that's not the American way.

According to CBS Sacramento, Saira Munoz wanted to go to the River Valley High School prom, but when she couldn't afford a dress, she had an idea: marijuana treats.

"People make mistakes," said Carlos Robles, a friend of the teen.

Munoz, who was 18 at the time, held a bake sale, and hired a fellow student to sell her "goodies," the station reported.

The plan reportedly went awry when a student got sick and was taken to the hospital in an ambulance.

Because Munoz hired a fellow student, she was charged with employing a minor to sell marijuana, which is a felony. On Monday, a judge sentenced her to nine days in jail with credit for time served, plus four years' probation.

But Munoz may have bigger problems -- during sentencing, she learned she could be deported to her native Mexico. Per CBS Sacramento, she came to the United States with temporary permission in 2000.
