US planemaker Boeing used an unusual substitute for passengers to test its in-flight wi-fi system - potatoes.

Passenger seats on a decommissioned plane were loaded with huge sacks of the tubers for several days as signal strengths were checked.

The company's researchers say that potatoes interact with electronic signals in a similar way to humans.

This lends a new meaning to the phrase couch potato.

So, how do you like your potatoes?

Traditional latkas, but made with one half shredded regular potatoes and half shredded sweet potatoes, both with skin on, instead of diced onions I run the onions through the same shredder I use for the potatoes, and lots of garlic. And we use gluten free flour.

Basic recipe here:

1 envelope Lipton Onion Soup Mix

4 Medium all-purpose potatoes, cut into chunks (about 2lbs.)

1/3 cup olive oil

Preheat oven to 450. In 13 x 9 -inch baking or roasting pan, combine all ingredients until evenly coated.

Bake uncovered, stirring occasionally, 40 minutes or until potatoes are tender and golden brown.

*These are good not only as a side dish for dinner but they are great with eggs too!

Has anyone noticed the price of Lay's Potato Chips lately? :eek: Crazy!
Eight-ounce bag - mfg. price stamped on bag = $4.59 So, that's probably the price you'd pay at the 'Quickie-Mart'.
Walmart = $3.39
Winco = $2.98

Fried potatoes, mashed potatoes, and au gratin potatoes are top tier IMO.
