What do you do when a storm comes through and knocks out your power? What do you do while the power is out? How do you entertain yourself?

When I was a kid living with my father, a really bad ice storm came through and hit the power lines. It was bad. It knocked out the power for over a week.

Never really happens and if it does, does not last long. Back in Australia, it happens to allot since powerlines are flying :P where tress full on them and they like to fly around as they do.

My house that I'm renting from my parents has a standby generator so I never have to worry about the power going out.

What is a stand alone generator?

A standby home generator keeps your power on during an outage. It's installed outside your house (like an AC unit) and comes on automatically — whether you're home or away. All within seconds of a power outage. Plus home generators run on propane or natural gas, so there's no refueling.

I had friends and family had a generator, then again it was used allot in the outback of farming lands.

I usually read during a power outage (of course I normally do that anyway). That's the one thing I can do with or without the power on in my house. I normally have a few flashlights in my house do I don't have to worry about being able to see my book in the dark. I also have a book light that someone got me for Christmas one year.

Knock on wood on this one, but haven't lost power in sometime. But I would just pull out my phone or some other handheld device to pass time or go to bed if the time is right.

I cannot do anything if it happens. If it is allowable to use my generator, I will do it.
